C.N.Blue: The New Kids On the Block

August 21, 2009

So I’ve heard about “the new F.T. Island”–AKA F.T. Island’s label mate, C.N.Blue (Code Name Blue). The group just debuted as an indie band in Japan, not Korea, and their first album dropped on the 19th.

Left to right: Kwon Kwang Jin, Jeong Yong Hwa, Lee Jong Hyun, and Kang Min Hyuk

Here are the member profiles. I was surprised that they were all so young–i.e. around my age. When I was listening to their music they seemed older : /

Do they sound like F.T. Island? Not really. They’re more of a traditional rock band, whereas F.T. Island is like a pop/ballad group that happens to play instruments. C.N.Blue is more raw, and in some ways they remind me more of American rock bands than Asian bands. They sing in English, and while they’re okay with the language they’re not great. I would suggest they sing in Japanese, but then they would probably butcher that language too and then the Japanese wouldn’t listen to them. So I guess I’d really like to hear them sing in Korean, their native language. It’d be cool to have Korean band like this.

It’s going to be hard breaking into Japan since there are already a lot of indie bands, but I think they’ve got potential. They’re rough around the edges now but they’ll get there. You can listen to C.N.Blue’s music on their myspace. My favorite tracks are “Love Revolution” and “Just Please.” Or if you want to see more candid photos of them, you can check out their blog.

Also, here is a live performance of their song “Now or Never.” There are definitely weak parts, but keep in mind it’s their first performance. Overall it wasn’t too shabby.

And to FnC Music: If you’re interested in making another band, I play guitar!! Wouldn’t it be cool to have a real girl band or even coed band? Think about it, get back to me.

oh, I didn’t know they were coming out with a girl group! yeah, I know what you mean, I hope they won’t be too pop. It would be awesome to have a real female rock band.

My favorite tracks are “Love Revolution” and “Just Please
Coincidentally, they both also happen to be composed by Jung Yong-hwa. He did the lyrics for “Love Revolution.” For “Just Please,” he wrote the lyrics and co-composed the music with Owl.
